State Bank of India (SBI) invites applications from eligible Indian Citizens for appointment as Circle Based Officers (CBO). Selected candidates shall be posted in the applied Circle only. Aspiring officers are required to register online after carefully reading the advertisement regarding the selection process, eligibility criteria, online registration processes, payment of prescribed application fee, issuance of call letters, and the examination/interview pattern. Candidates must ensure they fulfill all stipulated criteria and follow the prescribed processes.

The recruitment process will be held in four phases:

Cumulative age relaxation will not be available. Candidates seeking age relaxation are required to submit copies of necessary certificates at the time of interview/joining, if qualified.

Eligibilty

Essential Academic Qualifications

  • Graduation in any discipline from a recognised University or any equivalent qualification recognised by the Central Government, including Integrated Dual Degree (IDD).
  • Candidates possessing qualifications such as Medical, Engineering, Chartered Accountant, Cost Accountant would also be eligible.

Note: The date of passing eligibility examination will be the date appearing on the mark sheet or provisional certificate issued by the University/Institute.

Experience (as on 31.12.2025)

  • Minimum 2 years' experience (Post Essential Academic Qualification Experience) as an officer in any Scheduled Commercial Bank or any Regional Rural Bank as listed in Second Schedule of Reserve Bank of India.
  • Candidates shall have to submit job profile certified by their existing/previous employer(s). In case their job profile does not match substantially or is different than the job profile of a Scale-I Generalist officer of State Bank of India, the application will be summarily rejected.
  • Candidates having experience in Scheduled Commercial Banks other than Public Sector Banks / Regional Rural Banks shall be drawing a minimum annual gross salary of Rs.9.50 lacs for each year and shall provide documentary evidence (Form-16 / Annual Income Statement (AIS) / pay slips for last 24 months or certificate from employer).

Local Language Proficiency

  • The candidates applying for vacancies of a particular Circle, should be proficient (reading, writing and understanding) in any one of the specified opted local language of that Circle (mentioned against each Circle).
  • A test of knowledge of the specified opted local language of the applied circle will be conducted as a part of the selection process for provisionally selected candidates (based on performance in online test, screening and interview) before joining the Bank.
  • Candidate who fails to qualify this test will not be offered appointment.
  • Candidates who produce 10th or 12th standard mark sheet/ certificate evidencing having studied the specified opted local language of the applied Circle as one of the subjects will not be required to undergo the language test.

Other Important Eligibility Conditions

  • Candidates working with subsidiaries of Scheduled Commercial Banks will not be eligible to apply.
  • Candidates working in SBI in clerical/ supervisory cadre or employees engaged on contract basis will not be eligible to apply.
  • Candidates who have resigned from officer grade in SBI/Associate Banks or employees previously engaged on contract basis in SBI and resigned/exited from Bank will not be eligible to apply.
  • Candidates who have defaulted in repayment under any lending arrangement with Banks or NBFCs (including credit card dues) and have not regularised/repaid their outstanding thereunder till the date of issuance of letter of offer of appointment shall not be eligible.
  • Candidates against whom there is/are adverse report regarding character & antecedents, moral turpitude are not eligible to apply.
  • OBC category candidates belonging to the 'CREAMY LAYER' are not entitled to OBC reservation and age relaxation. They should indicate their category as General (or relevant PwBD category).
  • EWS candidates are required to produce for verification the 'Income & Asset Certificate' issued based on gross annual income for the Financial Year 2024-25 and valid for the year 2025-26 as per extant DoPT guidelines, on the date of document verification at the time of interview.
  • Candidates serving in Government/Quasi Government, Public Sector Undertakings including Nationalised Banks / RRBs are required to submit 'No Objection Certificate' from their employer at the time of interview, failing which such candidates will not be allowed for interview.

Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD)

4% horizontal reservation has been provided to Persons with Benchmark Disabilities as per section 34 of "The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016". The post is identified suitable for the Persons with undernoted categories of disabilities:

  • a) Blind, Low Vision (VI): Blindness, Low Vision.
  • b) Hard of Hearing (HI): Persons having 60 DB to 70 DB hearing loss in speech frequencies in both ears.
  • c) Locomotor Disabilities (LD): Inability to execute distinctive activities associated with movement, including Cerebral Palsy, Leprosy Cured, Dwarfism, Muscular Dystrophy, Acid Attack Victims, Spinal Deformity (SD) and Spinal Injury (SI) without any associated neurological / limb dysfunction. Covered categories include OA, BA, OL, BL, OAL.
  • d) Autism Spectrum Disorder (Mild)- ASD (M): A neuro-developmental condition affecting communication, understanding relationships, and relating to others.
  • e) Multiple Disabilities: Multiple disabilities amongst (A) to (D) above.

Only those persons with benchmark disabilities (not less than 40% of a specified disability) would be eligible for reservation. Guidelines for use of scribe and compensatory time are provided for eligible PwBD candidates.

SBI Circle Based Officer Salary Structure

Presently, the starting basic pay for Circle Based Officers is ₹48,480/- in the scale of ₹48480-2000/7-62480-2340/2-67160-2680/7-85920 applicable to Junior Management Grade Scale-I, plus 2 advance increments.

In addition to the basic pay, selected officers will also be eligible for:

  • Dearness Allowance (D.A)
  • House Rent Allowance (H.R.A) / Lease rental
  • City Compensatory Allowance (C.C.A)
  • Provident Fund (PF)
  • Contributory Pension Fund i.e., National Pension System (NPS)
  • Leave Fare Concession (LFC)
  • Medical Facility
  • Other allowances & perquisites as per rules in force from time to time.

SBI CBO Selection Procedure

The selection process consists of four main phases:

  1. Online Examination:
    • Objective Test: This section is for 120 marks and 2 hours duration. It comprises 4 sections: English Language (30 Qs, 30 Marks, 30 min), Banking Knowledge (40 Qs, 40 Marks, 40 min), General Awareness/Economy (30 Qs, 30 Marks, 30 min), and Computer Aptitude (20 Qs, 20 Marks, 20 min).
    • Descriptive Test: Administered immediately after the Objective Test, this is for 50 marks and 30 minutes duration. It tests English Language (Letter Writing & Essay) with two questions.
    • There will be no penalty for wrong answers in Objective Tests. Minimum qualifying marks on aggregate for the Online Test will be decided by the Bank.
  2. Screening:
    • Online applications and documents of candidates who qualify in the online examination will be placed before a Screening Committee.
    • The Committee will verify if candidates fulfill the required experience criteria and match their job profile (certified by their existing/previous employer) with the job profile of a Scale-I Generalist Officer of State Bank of India.
    • Applications may be summarily rejected if job profiles do not substantially match.
    • A Circle-wise and Category-wise merit list will be drawn based on aggregate marks in the Online Test for candidates who fulfill the required experience criteria.
    • Approximately 3 times the Circle-wise and Category-wise vacancies, subject to availability of qualified candidates, will be called for interview.
  3. Interview:
    • The Interview will be for 50 marks.
    • Candidates must score minimum qualifying marks in the interview, as decided by the Bank, to be considered for final selection.
  4. Final Selection & Local Language Proficiency Test:
    • Candidates must qualify both in the Online Test and Interview separately.
    • The marks obtained in the Online Test (Objective and Descriptive) and Interview will be aggregated for the final merit list, with a weightage of 75:25 respectively (Online Test: Interview).
    • The Local Language Proficiency Test will be conducted for provisionally selected candidates (based on performance in online test, screening, and interview) before joining the Bank. Candidates who fail to qualify this test will not be offered appointment, unless they are exempted by having studied the specified local language in their 10th or 12th standard.

    Steps to Apply for SBI CBO Recruitment 2026

    Candidates must apply online only from 29.01.2026 to 18.02.2026. No other mode of application will be accepted.

    1. Pre-requisites: Ensure you have a valid email ID and mobile number, which must remain active until the declaration of final results. These will be used for all communications from the bank.
    2. Visit the Official Website: Go to the Bank's career portal: https://sbi.bank.in/web/careers/current-openings.
    3. Register Online: Open the Online Application Form available under 'Current Openings' and register yourself for advertisement no. CRPD/CBO/2025-26/18.
    4. Fill the Application Form: Carefully fill in all required details. If you cannot complete it in one go, you can save the data already entered and re-open it later using the provisional registration number and password generated by the system. Once the application is filled completely, submit the data. No change/edit will be allowed thereafter.
    5. Upload Documents: Upload scanned images of your photograph, signature, left thumb impression, handwritten declaration, and other required documents as PDF files, strictly adhering to the specified guidelines (dimensions, file size, format). Refer to Annexure-II in the official advertisement for detailed guidelines.
    6. Pay Application Fee: After ensuring the correctness of the particulars of the application form, pay the requisite application fee online using a debit card, credit card, or Internet Banking through the integrated payment gateway. Transaction charges for online payment, if any, will be borne by the candidates.
    7. Print e-Receipt & Application Form: On successful completion of the transaction, an e-receipt and application form will be generated. Print these for your records. If the online transaction is not successfully completed, please register again and make payment online.
    8. Final Submission: Please DO NOT send the print-out of the application to the Bank.

    SBI CBO Online Examination Syllabus

    The online test consists of an Objective Test and a Descriptive Test.

    Objective Test (120 Marks, 2 Hours)

    This section comprises four timed tests:

    • I. English Language: 30 Questions, 30 Marks, 30 minutes
    • II. Banking Knowledge: 40 Questions, 40 Marks, 40 minutes
    • III. General Awareness/Economy: 30 Questions, 30 Marks, 30 minutes
    • IV. Computer Aptitude: 20 Questions, 20 Marks, 20 minutes

    This will be a Test of English Language, consisting of two questions:

    • i. Recent Photograph: (jpg/jpeg, 20kb-50kb, 200x230 pixels preferred). Must be a recent passport style colour picture against a light-coloured, preferably white, background. A live photograph capture using webcam/mobile phone is also required.
    • ii. Signature: (jpg/jpeg, 10kb-20kb, 140x60 pixels preferred). Sign on white paper with Black Ink pen. Signature should NOT BE IN CAPITAL LETTERS.
