Eligibilty

Educational Qualifications:

General Eligibility Conditions:

• Candidates must have graduated/post-graduated or be in their final year with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA.
• The degree-awarding university/institution must be incorporated by an Act of Central or State Legislature in India or other recognized educational institutions/deemed universities under relevant UGC/IIT/AICTE/NITSER/IIIT Acts.
• Candidates with an Engineering degree (60% marks aggregate or equivalent CGPA) from a foreign university/college/institution recognized by the Government of India, or with an Engineering Degree/equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), can also apply.

Important Notes on Eligibility:

• Candidates will be required to fulfill the stipulated educational qualification before joining INA, Ezhimala by Jan 2027.
• Failure to meet the educational criteria will result in not being permitted to join INA.
• All SSB recommended candidates must inform their final degree result to Indian Navy at officer@navy.gov.in prior to 20 December 2026.
• No equivalent stream of B.E./B.Tech qualifications other than those mentioned in the specific branches will be considered valid.
• Candidates with any backlog in any subject pending at the time of document verification at SSB centers will be denied to appear for SSB.

Special Categories:

Merchant Navy Personnel:

• Candidates with a Government of India, Ministry of Shipping & Transport Certificate of Competency (Foreign going) as a Second Mate, Mate, or Master, born between 02 Jan 1997 to 01 Jul 2007, can apply for Executive Branch entry (General Service).
• Candidates with a Government of India, Ministry of Shipping & Transport Certificate of Competency as a 1st Class Engineer, born between 02 Jan 1997 to 01 Jul 2007, can apply for Technical Branch entry (SSC Engineering).

Commercial Pilot License (CPL) Holders:

• Candidates holding a valid CPL issued by DGCA (India), born between 02 Jan 2002 to 01 Jan 2008, can apply for Pilot entry.

NCC Candidates:

• NCC 'C' certificate holders will receive a 5% relaxation in cut-off marks for SSB shortlisting, provided they meet the following criteria:
• Having an NCC 'C' certificate of Naval/Army/Air Wing with a minimum 'B' Grade.
• Not having served less than two academic years in the Senior Division, Naval/Army/Air Wing of the NCC.
• 'C' certificate should not be dated prior to 01 Jan 2024.
• Note: Final selection is subject to verification of the NCC certificate by DGNCC/concerned NCC unit for its validity. False declarations will lead to cancellation of candidature.

The Indian Navy is inviting applications for Short Service Commission (SSC) Officers for various entries. The tentative vacancies are as follows:

Note: Vacancies mentioned are tentative and may be changed depending on availability of training slots. Only one application can be filled by a candidate; multiple applications will lead to cancellation.

Male Candidates shortlisted for GS(X) are also eligible to volunteer for the Submarine Arm, subject to medical fitness, vacancies and service requirements. Candidates exercising this option will have to indicate it during online application. Eventual selection for submarine specialisation is subject to clearing submarine medicals (after joining INA).

Candidates selected under GS(X) may also be nominated for Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) Specialisation after training, subject to medical fitness and service requirements.

Selected candidates will be inducted in the rank of Sub Lieutenant. The initial gross salary for a Sub Lieutenant starts from approximately Rs 1,25,000/- per month, along with other applicable allowances.

Additional allowances are admissible for specific specialisations:

• Pilot/Naval Air Operations Officer (NAOO) Allowance: Rs 31,250/- per month, admissible post successful completion of training.
• Submarine Allowance: Rs 31,250/- per month, admissible post successful completion of submarine training.

The selection procedure comprises the following stages:

1. Shortlisting of Applications:
   • Shortlisting will be based on normalised marks obtained by candidates in their qualifying degree. The normalisation formula is available on the Join Indian Navy website (https://www.joinindiannavy.gov.in/files/normalisation.pdf).
   • For B.E./B.Tech candidates (completed or final year), marks obtained up to the fifth semester will be considered.
   • For Post-Graduate degree programmes (completed), marks obtained in all semesters will be considered. For candidates in the final year, shortlisting will be based on pre-final year performance.
   • NCC 'C' certificate holders will receive a 5% relaxation in cut-off marks for SSB shortlisting, provided they meet specific criteria (Naval/Army/Air Wing, minimum 'B' Grade, not less than two academic years in Senior Division, certificate not dated prior to 01 Jan 2024).
2. SSB Interview:
   • Shortlisted candidates will be informed about their selection for the SSB interview via e-mail or SMS. Candidates are advised not to change their contact details and to check their inbox/spam folders regularly.
   • Change of SSB Centre or dates is generally not permissible, except for correspondence regarding date changes addressed to the call-up officer after receiving the call-up letter.
   • AC 3 tier rail fare is admissible for the SSB interview if appearing for the first time for a particular type of commission. Candidates must bring a photocopy of the first page of their passbook or a cheque leaf for reimbursement.
   • Details of the SSB procedure are available on the Indian Navy website.
   • Candidates will be denied to appear for SSB if any backlog in any subject is pending at the time of document verification.
3. Medical Examination:
   • SSB recommended candidates are required to undergo a medical examination as applicable to their entry. Information on medical standards, including relaxation in height and weight, and tattoo policy, is available on www.joinindiannavy.gov.in.
   • Change of medical hospital/centre is not permissible.
4. Merit List:
   • A merit list will be prepared based on SSB marks for all entries, considering the availability of vacancies and medical clearance for the respective entry.
   • Candidates declared medically fit will be appointed based on the availability of vacancies.
   • Mere inclusion in the Select List/Merit list does not confer a vested right to appointment; final selection is subject to service requirements and statutory guidelines.
5. Training:
   • Selected candidates will be inducted as Sub Lieutenants, subject to clearing the induction medical examination at INA, Ezhimala.
   • Only unmarried candidates are eligible for training. Marriage during training will lead to discharge and liability to refund costs.
6. Probation Period:
   • The probation period for all branches/cadres is two years, commencing from the date of grant of the rank of Sub Lieutenant or completion of initial training (whichever is later).
   • Officers may be discharged during probation for unsatisfactory performance.
