The Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) invites online applications for the direct recruitment of Sub-Inspector Prohibition (अवर निरीक्षक मद्य निषेध) in the Excise, Product and Registration Department, Government of Bihar. Fees

The online application fee for all categories (Male, Female, and Third Gender) is Rs. 100/- (One Hundred Rupees).

Age limit

Age will be calculated as of August 01, 2025, based on the Matriculation or equivalent certificate.

  • Unreserved (General) Male: Minimum 20 years, Maximum 37 years
  • Unreserved (General) Female: Minimum 20 years, Maximum 40 years
  • Backward Class (BC) & Extremely Backward Class (EBC) Male & Female: Minimum 20 years, Maximum 40 years
  • Scheduled Caste (SC) & Scheduled Tribe (ST) Male & Female: Minimum 20 years, Maximum 42 years
  • Bihar Government Employees: A relaxation of 05 years in the upper age limit will be given to those who have completed a minimum of three years of regular service.
  • Ex-Servicemen: A relaxation of 03 years in the upper age limit, plus the equivalent of their service period in defense, provided their actual age does not exceed 57 years on the cut-off date.

Educational Qualification:

Candidates must have passed a Graduation examination or an equivalent examination recognized by the State Government from a recognized university by August 01, 2025.

Physical Standards:

Physical standards are mandatory to meet, but no marks are awarded for them. Candidates failing to meet these standards will be disqualified.

Height:

  • Unreserved (General) & Backward Class Male: Minimum 165 cm
  • Extremely Backward Class, Scheduled Caste & Scheduled Tribe Male: Minimum 160 cm
  • All Category Female: Minimum 155 cm

Chest (For Males Only):

  • Unreserved (General)/Backward Class & Extremely Backward Class Male:
    • Unexpanded: Minimum 81 cm
    • Expanded: Minimum 86 cm
    • (A minimum expansion difference of 5 cm is mandatory)
  • Scheduled Caste & Scheduled Tribe Male:
    • Unexpanded: Minimum 79 cm
    • Expanded: Minimum 84 cm

Salary Details:

Selected candidates for the post of Sub-Inspector Prohibition will be appointed at Level-6 of the pay matrix. This typically implies a pay scale ranging from approximately Rs. 35,400 to Rs. 1,12,400 per month, along with other admissible allowances as per Bihar Government rules.

Selection Process:

The selection process for Sub-Inspector Prohibition involves three stages:

1. Written Competitive Examination:

The written examination will consist of two phases: Preliminary and Main Exams. All questions in the written examination will be multiple-choice questions.

(i) Preliminary Examination (First Phase):

  • One paper of 200 marks.
  • Total 100 questions.
  • Examination duration: 2 hours.
  • Questions will be related to General Knowledge and Current Affairs.
  • Candidates scoring less than 30% marks will be disqualified for the Main Examination.
  • Candidates equal to 20 times the number of vacancies (category-wise on merit) will be selected for the Main Written Examination.
  • If the examination is held in multiple shifts, marks will be normalized using the Equi-Percentile Method.

(ii) Main Examination (Second Phase):

Candidates successful in the Preliminary Examination will be eligible for the Main Examination. The Main Examination will have two papers:

Paper I: General Hindi
  • 200 marks.
  • 100 questions.
  • Examination duration: 2 hours.
  • Minimum 30% marks are mandatory to qualify; otherwise, candidates will be declared disqualified.
  • Marks obtained in the General Hindi paper will not be added for final merit determination.
Paper II: General Studies, General Science, Civics, Indian History, Indian Geography, Mathematics & Mental Ability Test
  • 200 marks.
  • Total 100 questions.
  • Examination duration: 2 hours.

Negative Marking:

In both Preliminary and Main Examinations, 0.2 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer.

Selection for Physical Eligibility Test (PET):

Based on the Main Written Examination (Paper II), candidates equal to 6 times the number of vacancies (category-wise on merit) will be selected for the Physical Eligibility Test.

2. Physical Eligibility/Efficiency Test (Third Phase):

This stage is mandatory to qualify. Candidates must successfully pass all the following physical tests:

(i) Race:

  • All Category Males: 1 Mile (1.6 km) in a maximum of 6 minutes 30 seconds. (Candidates exceeding this time will be disqualified).
  • All Category Females: 1 Kilometer in a maximum of 6 minutes. (Candidates exceeding this time will be disqualified).

(ii) High Jump:

  • All Category Males: Minimum 4 feet. (Males jumping less than 4 feet will be disqualified).
  • All Category Females: Minimum 3 feet. (Females jumping less than 3 feet will be disqualified).

(iii) Long Jump:

  • All Category Males: Minimum 12 feet. (Males jumping less than 12 feet will be disqualified).
  • All Category Females: Minimum 9 feet. (Females jumping less than 9 feet will be disqualified).

(iv) Shot Put:

  • All Category Males: 16 pounds, minimum 16 feet throw. (Males throwing less than 16 feet will be disqualified).
  • All Category Females: 12 pounds, minimum 10 feet throw. (Females throwing less than 10 feet will be disqualified).

Candidates must qualify in all events separately. A maximum of three chances will be given for High Jump, Long Jump, and Shot Put.

3. Merit List & Recommendation:

The final merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in the Main Written Examination (Paper II).

Tie-breaking Criteria

In case two or more candidates secure the same marks, the following criteria will be applied in order:

  1. The older candidate will be placed higher in the merit list.

  2. If marks and date of birth are the same, the candidate with higher educational qualifications will be placed higher.

  3. If marks, date of birth, and educational qualifications are all the same, the candidate whose name appears first in alphabetical order (as per the 10th board certificate) will be given preference.

Minimum Qualifying Marks for Final Merit List (Main Examination)

  • Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Female candidates: 32%

  • Extremely Backward Class (EBC) candidates: 34%

  • Backward Class (BC) candidates: 36.5%

  • General category candidates: 40%

Final recommendations will be sent by BPSSC to the concerned Appointing Authority (Excise Commissioner).

    • Important: If you realize you entered incorrect details after payment, you can cancel your registration using the 'Cancel Registration Form' option. However, the application fee already paid will NOT be refunded, and you will have to pay the fee again for a new registration.
  6. Part 2 - Filling Application Details and Uploading Documents:
    • Log in using your Registration Number and Password received in Part 1.
    • Fill in personal details such as Father's/Husband's Name, Mother's Name, Address, and Educational Qualifications accurately.
    • Agree to the declaration.
    • Upload Photograph: A color photograph taken within two months, with a white background. File size between 15 KB to 25 KB, in .jpg/.jpeg/.gif format.
    • Upload Signature: Separate scanned images of your signature in English and Hindi (both in black or blue ink), each with a white background. File size between 15 KB to 25 KB, in .jpg/.jpeg/.gif format.
    • Note: Failure to follow the photo and signature specifications will lead to the cancellation of your application.
    • Before final submission, review all details by clicking on 'Edit Details'.
    • Once you 'Confirm' and 'Submit' the application, no further changes can be made.
    • After successful submission, you will receive a confirmation message (SMS/E-mail) on your registered mobile number/e-mail ID.
    • Print the A4 size 'Acknowledgement' (Paavti) of your filled application form (with photo) and keep it safe for future reference and correspondence. Do not send it to BPSSC.
  7. Candidature Cancellation: Be aware that your application may be cancelled at any stage without prior notice for reasons such as incomplete application (Part 2 not submitted after Part 1), incorrect photo/signature upload, non-payment or chargeback of fees, false information, incorrect reservation category claim, discrepancies during document verification, incorrect Date of Birth/Gender, not meeting eligibility criteria, or involvement in misconduct during the selection process.
