Eligibilty Criteria

Educational Qualification Requirements

To be eligible, a candidate must possess an SSC / 10th Standard (or equivalent) with Science subjects and a minimum of 55% marks, along with one of the following options:

Selection Process

The selection process comprises of the following stages:

  1. Screening Committee Recommendation: Applications will be scrutinized by a duly constituted Screening Committee.
  2. Trade Test: Candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria will be invited for a Trade Test in the relevant trade/discipline. This is qualifying in nature.
  3. Competitive Written Examination: Candidates who qualify in the Trade Test will be invited for a competitive written examination consisting of three papers (Paper-I, Paper-II & Paper-III).
    • Paper-I: Mental Ability Test (Qualifying in nature).
    • Paper-II & Paper-III: General Awareness, English Language, and Concerned Subject.
  4. Merit List Preparation: The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of the total marks obtained in Paper-II & Paper-III of the competitive written examination.

Syllabus

Written Examination Scheme:

Mode of Examination: OMR Based or Computer Based Objective Type Multiple Choice Examination.

Medium of Questions: English and Hindi (except for English Language questions).

Standard of Exam: SSC + ITI/XIIth Standard.

Total No. of Questions: 150

Total Time Allotted: 2 hours 30 minutes

Paper-I [Time Allotted – 1 hour]:

  • Subject: Mental Ability Test*
  • No. of questions: 50
  • Maximum Marks: 100 (Two marks for every correct answer)
  • Negative Marks: No Negative Marks
  • *Mental Ability Test will cover General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, Problem Solving, Situational Judgement, etc.

Paper – II [Time Allotted – 30 minutes]:

  • Subject: General Awareness
  • No. of questions: 25
  • Maximum Marks: 75 (Three marks for every correct answer)
  • Negative Marks: One negative mark for every wrong answer
  • Subject: English Language
  • No. of questions: 25
  • Maximum Marks: 75 (Three marks for every correct answer)
  • Negative Marks: One negative mark for every wrong answer

Paper-III [Time Allotted –1 hour]:

  • Subject: Concerned Subject (as per the trade/discipline applied for)
  • No. of questions: 50
  • Maximum Marks: 150 (Three marks for every correct answer)
  • Negative Marks: One negative mark for every wrong answer

Note: Paper-I is qualifying in nature. The merit list is prepared based on marks in Paper-II & Paper-III.

How To apply

  1. Download the prescribed application form from the NPL website (www.nplindia.in).
  2. Fill out the application form completely and accurately.
  3. Attach self-attested copies of relevant certificates, mark sheets, experience certificates, and caste/category certificates (if applicable).
  4. Paste a recent passport-size self-signed photograph on the application form.
  5. Prepare a Demand Draft for Rs. 500/- (if applicable) in favour of "Director, National Physical Laboratory", payable at New Delhi. Mention candidate's name and post code on the back of the DD.
  6. Send the completed application along with all supporting documents and Demand Draft (if applicable) in an envelope superscribing "APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF TECHNICIAN(1) - (Post Code No.____)".
  7. The application should be sent by Post to: Senior Controller of Administration, CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, Dr. K.S. Krishnan Marg, New Delhi-110012.
  8. Ensure the application reaches the specified address on or before 30.06.2026.

Required Document

The following documents must be attached along with the application form sent by post:

  • Demand Draft of Rs. 500/- (wherever applicable) in favour of the Director, National Physical Laboratory, payable at New Delhi. Personal details (i.e., name & post code) should be mentioned on the back of the Demand Draft.
  • Recent passport-size color photograph pasted on the application form (Part I) and signed across in full.
  • Recent passport-size colour photograph pasted on Part II of the application form. (Not to be signed across the photograph).
  • Self-Attested photocopy of the Date of Birth certificate.
  • Self-Attested photocopy of educational certificate(s) and/or mark sheet(s) supporting the essential qualification and any higher qualifications.

Salary Criteria

Pay Level: Level – 02

Basic Pay: Rs. 19,900 - 63,200/-

Total Emoluments: Rs. 44,428/- per month (approximate emoluments on the minimum of the scale, including House Rent Allowance in Class ‘X’ City).
