Chest Male 79 cm (General/OBC/BC). Relaxation for SC/ST candidates with relaxation in physical measurement. Self-attested photocopy of online caste certificate required.
Technical Proficiency Technically Skilled Urban Home Guard candidates only Proficient in various technical fields and employed/self-employed and technically knowledgeable. Examples include: Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, Professors, Nurses, Computer Operators, Typists, Licensed Drivers (HMV/LMV), Cooks, Carpenters, Cobblers, Dhobis, Barbers, Electricians, Gardeners, Plumbers, etc. Self-attested photocopy of certificate issued by a competent authority required.

Note: 50% of the posts in both categories (Rural/Urban Home Guards) will be reserved for women. Of the posts reserved for women, 5% will be reserved for eligible divorced/abandoned/widowed women. If eligible divorced/abandoned/widowed candidates are not available, the said 5% posts will be included in the percentage reserved for women. For urban home guards, 50% of the vacancies will be for technically skilled candidates. If eligible candidates are not found, vacancies for non-technical/technical skilled will be filled from each other.

Selection Process

As per the provisions of the notification of the Home Department, Government of Jharkhand, Ranchi No. 5442, dated 20.10.2014, the following tests will be conducted by the selection committee:

(a) Physical Efficiency Test:

This includes 1 Mile Run, High Jump, Long Jump, and Shot Put, with marks awarded as follows:

(i) For Rural Home Guard and Non-Technical Urban Home Guard Candidates:

(b) Hindi Writing Ability Test:

Candidates who pass the Physical Efficiency Test will have to appear for the Hindi Writing Ability Test. The writing ability will be assessed according to the 7th-grade level for rural home guards and the 10th-grade level for urban home guards. This is a qualifying test with full marks of 100 and passing marks of 30.

(c) Technical Proficiency Test:

(Only for Technically Skilled Urban Home Guard candidates)

Candidates who pass the Physical Efficiency Test and Hindi Writing Ability Test will undergo a Technical Proficiency Test. This is a qualifying test with full marks of 100 and passing marks of 30.

(d) Merit List Preparation:

After the completion of all tests, a merit list will be prepared based on the provisions given in the aforementioned notification, and selection will be made against the vacancies accordingly. After the medical examination and police character verification of the selected candidates, if found suitable, the selected candidates will be given basic training as Home Guard under the orders of the Headquarters, Jharkhand Home Guard Corps, Ranchi. Upon successful completion of training, they will be enrolled as Home Guards and issued enrollment certificates as per provisions.

Additional Marks for Sports Achievements:

Candidates who have been awarded in national/state level sports will be given additional marks as follows:

Reservation for Government Servants as Urban Home Guard:

Up to 10% of the total vacancies for Urban Home Guards can be filled by government servants. For this, government servants must attach a self-attested photocopy of the No Objection Certificate issued by their office head. Marks will be awarded based on the educational qualification of government servants as follows:

  • Postgraduate: 10 marks
  • Graduate: 8 marks
  • Intermediate: 6 marks
  • Matriculation: 4 marks

Syllabus

The syllabus for the Hindi Writing Ability Test will be as per the 7th-grade level for rural home guards and the 10th-grade level for urban home guards. Specific details regarding the syllabus for other tests like the physical efficiency test are provided within the selection criteria.
